Earthquake advice reaction off-base: reader
Posted Jul 29, 2010 By Norman DuguidDear Editor,
I have never felt particularly compelled to send letters about the editorial page for any particular reason. People have their own opinions and one generally has to agree to disagree.
However in the case of the letter from Craig Garcia, I feel I would be remiss if his letter had no rebuttal and people took his advice about Doug Copp and his "triangle of life" to heart.
Where to start? How about with the fact that, at best, Doug Copp is a highly controversial "Rescue Expert" and has been under investigation by a U.S. department of fraud unit. His credentials are dubious as well. He claims an engineering degree but in actuality has no degree, however he did fail an engineering course at university. He has been discredited by the Red Cross and numerous other urban rescue teams, most particularly over his "Triangle of life" theory.
So Mr. Garcia, in your attempt to draw the editor up short over (the) article it appears you may very well want to take some of your own advice, to wit: "Do your research". A simple Google search would have provided you with numerous unbiased websites condemning Mr. Copp's advice and showing him to be a shallow glory hound.
Regards,
Norman Duguid.
